SOCCER
Castle Rovers played their first match of the new year on Sunday last, when they were defeated 3-2 in the Lawson Cup. It was played against a backdrop of driving wind and hailstones. Knockainey took an early lead but Michael Ryan got the equaliser for Castle shortly afterwards.
Knockainey added their second before halftime. An unforgettable own goal by a Castle defender making it 3-1. However Castle rallied and with conditions getting worse, Paul Kiely scored a great volley from a pass by Michael Ryan to make it 3-2. Castle tried hard for an equaliser but time ran out. The team will take great heart from this game, with the League entering its second half.
Training continues at 7pm at the Field, on Wednesdays.
